The kitchen is properly specified: a freestanding American-style fridge freezer, microwave, and a wine cooler — the last of which is a small thing that says a good deal about who this lodge is for. There's Starlink high-speed internet throughout, which matters more than you'd think in rural Fife, where conventional broadband can be patchy. It means streaming in the evening actually works, and a few days of remote working from the snug is a realistic proposition.

The snug is the point. In most lodges of this size the third sleeping space is a sofa bed in the lounge — fine for children, less so for adults, and it means someone is going to bed in the room everyone else is sitting in. Here it's a separate room with a proper double bed, so three couples or a group of six can share the lodge on genuinely equal terms. There's no linen supplement to think about either; all beds are made up before you arrive.

Outside
This is where Saltire earns its name. The decking has been extended and is fully enclosed, with the hot tub sunk into it rather than sitting on top — easier to get into, and it keeps the sightline across the deck clear so the view isn't interrupted by a lid and a cabinet.
Enclosed decking means privacy from your neighbours and a secure outdoor space, while the outlook beyond stays open across the countryside. It works as well over a first coffee as it does at the end of the day, and on a clear night the sky out here is dark enough to be worth looking at.
Ample private parking for at least two cars at the lodge, with additional parking next to the main building if you need it — useful for a group of six arriving separately. EV charging points available on the resort.
Where you are
Stewarts Resort sits in landscaped grounds and woodland with a designated footpath down to Cameron Reservoir.
Fife's own attractions are the reason most people come — the Old Course and the St Andrews links three and a half miles away, the cathedral and castle ruins, the university quarter, two miles of beach at West Sands, and the East Neuk harbours at Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem and Elie.
But it's also a better base for the rest of Scotland than people expect. Dundee is half an hour north, with the V&A on the waterfront and Captain Scott's RRS Discovery moored alongside it. Perth is about the same, with Scone Palace on its edge, where the kings of Scotland were crowned. Loch Leven, forty minutes west, has a level trail right around the water and a castle on an island where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned. And Edinburgh is an hour and a half by car or train — close enough for a day, far enough that you come back to somewhere quiet.
Good to know
Check-in from 4 pm, check-out by 10 am. The lodge is non-smoking inside; smoking is permitted outside, and we ask that you dispose of cigarette ends responsibly. Parking is for at least two cars at the lodge; any additional vehicles can use the parking next to the main building. Please charge electric vehicles at the resort's commercial charging point rather than using the lodge's own supply. Glass tumblers and bottles aren't allowed in the hot tub, so please use plastic. There is a strict no-noise policy after 10 pm, so please be considerate of your neighbours. A damages deposit is pre-authorised before arrival and released 72 hours after departure, provided no damage has been caused.
