Golf Retreat is a spacious, detached property situated on a quiet cul-de-sac just a mile or so from the heart of St Andrews — superb for families or couples hoping to explore the beaches, cafés, golf courses, and historical attractions in the town, and also looking to enjoy a peaceful and relaxed getaway. The master bedroom boasts a super king bed, and there are also two twin rooms, meaning that the property sleeps up to six guests. All beds are zip and link for more flexibility. Two small dogs are welcome if you want to extend your party! The south facing, landscaped garden is accessed via double doors in the living room and boasts a delightful decked and patio area. If you prefer to eat out, there's an amazing array of restaurants in town. Whether you're looking for classic pub grub, sublime seafood, or family-run Italian or Indian eateries, we're certain that you'll find something that floats your boat. There are also some excellent takeaways if you enjoy a more informal dining experience. Check our blog for reviews of cafés and restaurants in St Andrews and the surrounding area — we've profiled the top spots to grab a burger and polish off a pizza, the cosiest cafés to consume a hot chocolate, and also appraised the best places for vegetarian and vegan food, too.
Throughout the property, the interior spaces are light and bright, and the cosy soft furnishings mean that you'll immediately feel at home when staying at Golf Retreat. Linen, towels, and hairdryers are provided for your convenience, and there's also a washing machine for any essential loads of laundry whilst you're away. If you have a young baby or toddler, you'll also be able to make use of the travel cot, which will free up space in your car for other holiday paraphernalia. You'll be sure to get a good night's sleep as there are room darkening shades and comfortable beds in each of the bedrooms!
If you're a golfer, we'd particularly recommend checking out the St Andrews Links website and booking tee times in advance of your stay. Avid historians should definitely head to the Bell Pettigrew Museum, the Wardlaw Museum, and the R&A Golf Museum, whilst families will love the East Sands for a beach day out complete with sandcastle building, ice creams, rock pooling, and a dip in the sea — the beach is lifeguarded during the summer months. If you've brought your dog, we'd recommend the West Sands and the Fife Coastal path for your daily walks .
The royal burgh of St. Andrews is a university town, the home of golf and a former fishing port in Fife council area and historic county, Scotland. There is a wide selection of golf links nearby, which rank amongst the finest in the world.
There is a colour printer and label maker in the front room, along with a 3 in 1 charging dock for phones, ipads, apple watches etc. -
A SILVER category three-bedroom lodge with a sunken hot tub on fully enclosed decking, three miles from St Andrews at Stewarts Resort. Sleeping six across a double with en-suite and two twins, with dogs welcome and free use of the resort's health spa, gym, sauna and steam room. The outdoor space is what people remember — a tub set into the deck with underwater lights, enclosed on all sides, and a great deal of Scottish sky above it.
Inside
Open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting room, with an electric fire for cooler evenings and Wi-Fi throughout.
The kitchen is properly equipped rather than merely present: fridge freezer, gas hob and cooker, microwave, toaster and kettle. Worth using — the fishmongers along the East Neuk land their catch daily, and a lodge with a decent kitchen three miles from Pittenweem harbour is an argument for cooking in at least one evening.
Sleeping
Main bedroom with a double bed and en-suite toilet
Two twin bedrooms
Family bathroom with a walk-in shower enclosure
Worth knowing before you book: the twin bedrooms are compact. They're well suited to children, or to adults who mainly want a comfortable place to sleep rather than a room to spend time in. If you need three full-size double rooms, one of our larger lodges will suit you better — just ask and we'll point you to the right one.
Bed linen and towels are provided. Please bring your own towels for the hot tub.
Outside
A fully enclosed deck with outdoor furniture and a hot tub sunk into the decking, fitted with jets and underwater lights. Being sunken makes it easier to get in and out of, and the enclosure means children can be outside without constant watching and a dog can be off the lead while you sit out.
Private parking for two cars at the lodge, with additional parking next to the main building if you need it. EV charging points available on the resort.
Where you are
Stewarts Resort sits in landscaped grounds and woodland, with a designated footpath down to Cameron Reservoir for an easy walk before breakfast.
The proper walking is a few minutes away. The Fife Coastal Path runs 116 miles from Kincardine round to Newburgh, but the stretch through the East Neuk is the one worth planning a holiday around, and it's waymarked well enough to pick up a section and stop when you've had enough. Elie to St Monans takes in the chain walk across the cliffs at Kincraig for anyone with a head for heights, then the ruined church standing almost in the sea. St Monans to Pittenweem and on to Anstruther is gentler and strung with harbours, so lunch is never far away. Crail to Fife Ness runs past the lobster hut and out to the point where the coastline turns. And the run from St Andrews south towards Kingsbarns gives you cliffs, dunes and beaches with barely anyone on them.
St Andrews itself is three miles away, or an hourly bus from the front of the resort — the Old Course and the links, the cathedral and castle ruins, and two miles of beach at West Sands. Edinburgh is around an hour and a half by car or train.
Good to know
Check-in from 4 pm, check-out by 10 am. Up to two small dogs are welcome, with a supplement. The lodge is non-smoking inside; smoking is permitted outside, and we ask that you dispose of cigarette ends responsibly. Parking is for two cars at the lodge; any additional vehicles can use the parking next to the main building. Please charge electric vehicles at the resort's commercial charging point rather than using the lodge's own supply. Glass tumblers and bottles aren't allowed in the hot tub, so please use plastic. There is a strict no-noise policy after 10 pm, so please be considerate of your neighbours. A damages deposit is pre-authorised before arrival and released 72 hours after departure, provided no damage has been caused.
